Simple Beauty

Sherita

This month’s topic at my photography club (Hampton Roads Digital Photography Club) is on the subject of studio lighting and portraits.  The first week we discussed studio lighting equipment, options and a little bit about portraits.  Last week we had a hands on class for the members of the club.  A few of the other organizers and myself each bought in our lighting setups to share with the class.  I bought in a simple setup of just one light and an umbrella diffuser.

We also had the pleasure of having a few models volunteer to pose for us.  Sherita came over to my setup towards the end of the night.  I only got two or three shots of her because I wanted to give others a chance to play with the lighting but that was all I needed.  Thanks for volunteering Sherita and you take a beautiful image!

The Cascades

July 14, 2009

Last week Marcy and I had to travel to Blacksburg for a couple of days. While we were there I was able to sneak away for a couple of hours to go see a waterfall. This was the first time I ever had a chance to see a waterfall in person. To get to the falls I had to hike two miles up a mountain. While the hike itself wasn’t too bad, carrying about 40 pounds of camera equipment on my back made it seem like an eternity to get to the top. Read more

At the end of May, Marcy and I celebrated our two year anniversary. While we had a photographer at our wedding, Marcy never had a bridal shoot. She wanted me take take her bridal portraits after the wedding but with all the excitement of being newlyweds, one day led to the next and we never got around to making that shoot happen. Two years later Marcy finds out that she can still fit in her wedding dress! We decided to get up at the sunrise on the weekend of our anniversary and have our shoot at the beaches in Mathews, VA. A few weeks ago we had a photo session with the Hambys and a few of their friends.  When I asked where do you want to shoot at, of course they said, “the Beach,” so off to Yorktown we went!  We had our session at “golden hour,” which is between 6:30pm and 8:00pm.  The light is just beautiful at that time of day and perfect for capturing beach memories. Boys will be boys

May 6, 2009

Marcy and I recently had the opportunity to photograph Eden and Kaden; two cousins that were a joy to work with.  Did we ever tell you that we love kids?  Kids make you want to act like a kid yourself.  We got to play in the grass, the water and run around the yard! Granted we were worn out the next day but it was a blast.  Eden and Kaden are definitely not strangers to the camera.  We hardly had to ask them for a smile.  They were naturals and made it so easy for us to just have fun!

Beaches

April 19, 2009

mathews-2

Almost every week Marcy and I are constantly running around.  The first thing Marcy and I do on Sunday is go to church.  After service is over we have our lazy day of just the two of us. Sometimes we just sit around the house and become couch potatoes but since the weather is starting to get nicer we’ve been using the time to explore our surroundings.  This week we took a drive out to the beaches in Mathews, VA.  The temperature started to drop while we were there but it was absolutely beautiful!  We didn’t stay too long but I’m sure we’ll be shooting there again some time.  Which brings me to another point! We love to shoot portraits at great locations and this is definitely one of them.  Wouldn’t it be great to have your portraits on the beaches of Mathews?  Call us and we’ll make it happen!

It’s your big day

yourday1

What an exciting feeling to have the day you get married.  It’s a day filled with love, laughter and tears.  There’s so much going on that you hardly remember a thing.  Thankfully, Mark Warren Photography photographed your wedding and captured all the best memories from the little details to the aunt you rarily get to see.  Don’t worry about a thing, we’ll take care of you!

Love is in the air

love-in-the-air

Winter has finally gone and spring is well on its way. Can’t you just feel the love in the air? I love this time of year and I love to shoot couples like Travis and Rachel. They are a great young couple and they are passionate about each other. This is the type of love that will last a lifetime.

daffodil

After much rain and cold weather over the past few weeks it was great to have a day of nice weather.  Marcy and I got up early to go to the Daffodil Festival over at Main St. Gloucester.  You couldn’t have asked for a better day!  Read more
