What not to wear!
Ok.. let’s get this straight first and foremost… I don’t normally dress like this on a daily basis! I purposely did this to illustrate that sometimes we may need a little help figuring out what to wear. Often times people have no clue what to wear to a portrait session. After all, you want your portraits show your style but without you looking crazy. We all know we look good because we’re all beautiful people, but with what we choose to wear, will it look good in a portrait? Here are the most common questions and concerns when it comes to clothing for portraits.
1. What do I wear?
Keep it simple! A simple pair of jeans and a nice t-shirt or blouse are classic, simple outfits (especially for location portrait sessions). Avoid clothing with a bunch different textures and busy patterns. Solid colors always work best.
2. I don’t want to look big!
Women especially are concerned with how their body looks and their expression. Not everyone can be a waif thin model and personally not everyone looks good as waif thin model. Wearing black will make you look smaller. If you’re worried about your arms then wear a long sleeve shirt or blouse. Wear loose fitting clothing. Tighter clothing typically squeezes you in the wrong places. Wear longer dresses instead of shorter ones. If your neck is your concern then wear a higher neckline collar or a scarf.
3. What about family and group sessions.
When it comes to group photos, make sure everyone is wearing coordinated outfits. One person in jeans and the other in a dress suit will throw of the flow of the shoot. One person in orange polka dots and the other person in green stripes will also look like a fashion tragedy. Stick with a theme, like khaki pants and a white shirt or jean pants and a black shirt. If everyone else is wearing pants don’t be the one person to wear shorts. Keep it consistant!
These are just a few simple tips to help you with your outfit selection. If you have a shoot coming up and still unsure just give us a call and will be happy to help you out!
