The Cascades

Last week Marcy and I had to travel to Blacksburg for a couple of days. While we were there I was able to sneak away for a couple of hours to go see a waterfall. This was the first time I ever had a chance to see a waterfall in person. To get to the falls I had to hike two miles up a mountain. While the hike itself wasn’t too bad, carrying about 40 pounds of camera equipment on my back made it seem like an eternity to get to the top.
While I was hiking the trail, I made several stops to take pictures along the way. Time flew by and before I knew it I should have been on my way back to meet Marcy. I came to a sign that said I only had a 1/4 mile to reach the falls, so I had to make a decision, “Do I turn back now and be on time or go see the falls?” Needless to say I went to see the falls and needless to say Marcy was highly upset because I was late! I would have called to tell her I was running a bit late but there was no cell phone signal on the mountain.
After I saw the waterfall I made my way back down the mountain as fast as possible. I twisted my ankle a few times running down the mountain again with the extra 40 pounds on my back. I finally got a signal when I was about 1/8th of a mile away from the car. At that point my run turned to more of a fast limp. I called Marcy and boy was she mad! She said I hope it was worth it making me wait! I couldn’t answer that question at the moment because that would have made her even more upset than she was but now I can say it was definitely worth it! See for yourself!

on July 14th, 2009Gorgeous Mark. Not “Gorgeous Mark” but gorgeous, Mark.
All the images are perfectly exposed which is tricky to do with long exposure flowing water shots taken during daylight hours.

on July 14th, 2009Sounds like I have to give you lessons on how to hike mountains and not get hurt . . . running with a pack is not in the lesson either, other than your twisted ankle, glad you made it back without breaking anything . . . lovely images Mark

on July 15th, 2009Some may continue to beg the differ with you if it was worth you seeing God’s Beautiful creation versus others staring at 4 walls in a hotel room
I love you, but you still owe me! LOL

on August 4th, 2009This is too funny – - really – - don’t sweat it Mark – - she was working and it was just a treat that you could be there with her. She was working wasn’t she???
The photos are fabulous – - as usual your photo eyes really have a way of capturing the beauty in all that you shoot. God certainly has a way of putting those moments and places right there for you and you capitalize on every one. I agree with Will’s comments. Can you please email me one of the falls photos???
